The Ford Tempo, manufactured from 1984 to 1994, was an affordable and practical vehicle for American families. It was positioned between the Ford Escort and the larger Taurus in Ford's portfolio, with aerodynamic style, fuel efficiency, and front-wheel drive. The Tempo had a rounded, aerodynamic design inspired by the Ford Taurus, which increased fuel efficiency and reduced wind noise. It was available in two-door coupe and four-door sedan body styles, with a focus on ergonomics and visibility. The Tempo offered several engine options, including a 2.3-liter HSC inline-four engine, a 3.0-liter Vulcan V6 engine, and an optional all-wheel-drive system from 1987 to 1991. The vehicle was available with either a 3-speed or 4-speed automatic transmission, as well as a 5-speed manual.
The Tempo was designed to compete with popular compact cars of the time, such as the Chevy Cavalier, Toyota Camry, and Honda Accord. It was a popular automobile option in the 1980s and early 1990s due to its affordability, practicality, and fuel efficiency. The Tempo was eventually replaced by the Ford Contour in 1995, continuing the evolution of Ford's compact car lineup with a more modern design and improved performance.
