The Ford Thunderbird, also known as the "T-Bird," is an iconic American car by the Ford Motor Company that evolved over time. It was first introduced in 1955 to compete with Chevrolet's Corvette. The Thunderbird underwent several changes over time in response to changing market conditions and technological advancements. The original Thunderbird was a two-seat convertible with a V8 engine that came equipped with power seats, windows, and a detachable hardtop. The classic "swing-away" steering wheel was first seen on the second-generation model. The third-generation model, or "Bullet Bird," had sequential turn signals and a more aerodynamic, streamlined appearance with taillights that resembled bullets.

The "Jet Bird," or fourth-generation Thunderbird, adopted a more angular Jet-inspired design concept. From the early 1970s, the Thunderbird emphasized comfort and luxury above sportiness on a bigger Ford Torino platform. Thunderbird returned in 1980 on a smaller platform to match market shifts and fuel economy concerns. The eighth-generation model, the "Aero Bird," returned to a sleeker, more aerodynamic design with electronic fuel injection and digital instrument clusters. The ninth-generation Thunderbird used the previous generation's design motif and increased handling, comfort, and performance. And lastly, the Final Thunderbird, introduced in 2002, referenced 1950s two-seater T-Birds with a retro-inspired appearance, modern amenities, and a powerful V8 engine.
