No results found for "brake pads, brake rotors, brake calipers, brake". Here are some helpful search tips:

  • Search by a part name. Example: water pump.
  • Be less specific. Example: brake instead of ceramic brake.
  • Remove information such as make, year or model.
  • Can't find the part you are looking for? Contact us and we'll find it for you!

If you've ever wondered how your brakes work, you're in luck. Sure, you know to press the sole of your foot against the brake pedal, but the actual mechanics of the act beyond that are unseen. Since there are two types of braking systems, the parts involve differ -- but the general approach is the same.

No matter whether your vehicle is equipped with a disc brake system or a drum brake system, the master brake cylinder responds to you pressing the brake pedal by sending brake fluid through lines and hoses to each wheel. The pressure builds and forces the hardware at each wheel to slow the rotation of the wheels.

With a drum brake system, the brake shoes clasp onto the brake drums to produce the friction needed to stop your ride. In a disc brake system, the brake calipers close brake pads onto the brake rotors to produce that same resistance.

The heat caused by braking can do damage over time, even to the highest quality parts. You may be fortunate enough to have your dashboard warning light alert you when something begins to fail. More likely, you'll need to pay attention to the signs of bad brakes. These might show up as strange noises when you’re braking, or the brake pedal suddenly feeling squishy. If your brake pedal vibrates or the vehicle shudders violently every time you brake, that's a sure sign of a warped rotor. You'll want to get that fixed as soon as possible, because that greatly reduces your ability to safely stop.

You can get everything you need for the job right here in our auto parts catalog. Since we only carry genuine brake parts made by Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury, you know that they'll fit and perform exactly as intended. We sell them at prices well below the MSRP others charge, so order today and save!
